What Kimberly Greenwell Stands for
Kimberly Greenwell’s number one priority is to get folks back to work with job creation and sustainability. She also believes that in order for Kentucky to compete with our bordering states, we must make gaming legal. We are losing millions of dollars to states like Indiana and Illinois, not to mention the financial crisis that’s looming for Kentucky’s horse racing tracks and industry.
Back to Work KY
Creating, attracting and sustaining businesses in Kentucky is Ms. Greenwell’s top priority. She has the capacity and experience to create jobs, support education as well as create initiatives to keep families and young professionals working and living in Louisville. In order for Kentucky to lower its unemployment rate, we must strengthen our small, medium and large businesses. It’s crucial that we develop an environment where a company can grow and prosper.
Ms. Greenwell also favors reforming the state tax system to become more competitive with bordering states and to broaden the base of taxpayers. Additionally, an alternative to raising and possibly reducing taxes, would be to close loopholes and include additional sectors in the tax base.
Support Gaming
Ms. Greenwell is a strong proponent of expanded gaming. If legalized, gaming would result in immediate job creation, increased tax revenues to support our most vital programs such as education and it would bail out our horse industry from looming financial danger. Millions of dollars would stay in Kentucky instead of going to states such as Indiana and Illinois to fund their programs. In fact, video lottery terminals (VLTs) would bring an estimated $700 million in state revenue, if legalized at Kentucky’s racetracks. Many incumbents in state government voted NO to this legislation the last time it came up. If elected, Ms. Greenwell will work hard to make sure it passes.
